Innocent looking apps, such as “Calculator +” and “Secret Calculators” are just a front for a social media app that predators use to lure and blackmail our kids with. LiveMe, MusicLy and YouNow are popular not only among kids but predators as well. Apps like LiveMe has live streaming, and users can share location and sometimes unknowingly. Some apps even use a currency systems that converts to cash. Pedophiles use these types of apps to scheme minors into undressing and later use those videos or photos to blackmail them to perform sexual act and even sexual work.
Human trafficking is on the rise. And we need to be informed and aware of our kids whereabouts and social media interactions.
